Renowned artist Yayoi Kusama has died. She continued painting until right before she died. She experienced hallucinations as a young child. Kusama turned those childhood hallucinations into famous art. Polka dots served as her primary theme. They appeared across her many paintings and sculptures.

Kusama won the Praemium Imperiale award for her contributions in art. Her work gained global fame. One creation, the Red Pumpkin artwork, grew into an icon of Naoshima island. She remained active until her death. She made art rooted in her early childhood experiences and her signature polka dots.
